Two days judging AI-in-healthcare submissions at GRIET's Epitome 2025, evaluating teams on working systems rather than slide decks.
Epitome 2025, run by the Student Development Cell at Gokaraju Rangaraju Institute of Engineering and Technology, was a two-day hackathon themed on AI in healthcare — a domain where a confident wrong answer is not a minor bug.
Judging focused on the things that separate a demo from a system:
- Does it run, on someone else's machine, without the team standing over it?
- What happens on the inputs the team did not anticipate?
- Is the model's output grounded in something checkable, or is it fluent guessing?
- Has anyone thought about who is accountable when it is wrong?
The strongest submissions were rarely the most ambitious. They were the ones that picked a narrow problem and handled its edges.
